Cheap Dedicated Server Hosting - A Review of One Popular Dedicated Server Hosting Company

When looking for cheap dedicated server hosting it’s best to know what your getting up front. So I decided to do a review for you of one of the more popular cheap dedicated server hosting companies. Here’s what I found for you.

The technical stuff and some guidelines for what to look for in a low priced dedicated server plan:

  • Windows 2003/2008 or Linux (Red Hat, Free BSD, etc.) servers:
  • AMD Athlon 2000+, 512 MB DDR RAM, 40 Gigs Hard Drive,
  • 1400 GB Monthly Traffic (non Cogent), 100 Mbps Connection,
  • FREE Webmin Control Panel (Plesk 8, cPanel/whm or Helm for Windows at the additional fee), full root access to the server.

Some other important points are:

  • You want complete access and control over your server.
  • You want to be able to load any applications you choose as long as they don’t violate the user’s policy.
  • Hardware changes that can be made at any time.
  • Ability to have multiple IP addresses
  • Your server should be housed in a concrete reinforced, cement block collocation facility with redundant local power feeds. Even generator back up is preferred.
  • At the very least an e-mail support service
  • A connection type of at least 100Mbps cross connection to Infolink switches that have redundant Tier-One backbone connections.
